WLS Boys & Girls Bring Home District Track Titles – Peak of Ohio - peakofohio.com

The West Liberty-Salem girls track and field team won its fourth DIII Southwest district title in six years.

The Tigers were led by the hurdling duo of Sophia Hardwick and Claire Longshore. Hardwick won the 300 Meter Hurdles (47.38) and took third in the 100 Meter Hurdles (16.26). Longshore placed second in the 100 Meter Hurdles in a new school record time of 16.20 and placed fourth in the 300 Meter Hurdles (49.31)

WLS qualified all four of its relays to the Regional meet. Along with the 4×800 relay that qualified on prelim night, the 4×200 Relay team of Tori Douthwaite, Gwen McCullough, Claire Longshore, and Mallory Bostick placed third (1:51.10), the 4×100 Relay team of Tori Douthwaite, Gwen McCullough, Lena Kauffman, and Chloe Griffith placed third (52.77) and the 4×400 Relay team of Ashley Yoder, Gwen McCullough, Teagan Boyd, and Mallory Bostick placed second (4:16.02)

Also qualifying for the Regional Meet were third place finishers Breece Gullett in the 1600 Meter Run (5:24.43) PR, Mallory Bostick 400 Meter Dash (1:02.06) Malia Miller 3200 Meter Run (11:52.45) PR, and fourth place finishers Ashley Yoder 1600 Meter Run (5:25.88), Elise Longshore Pole Vault (9’0), Sophia Hardwick Discus (99’03”) PR.

Rounding out the scoring for WLS were Chloe Griffith fifth place in 100 Meter Dash (13.14) and 200 Meter Dash (28.38), Gwen McCullough 800 Meter Run (2:29.48) PR, Lena Kauffman Pole Vault 6th place tie (8’06”), Tori Douthwaite 100 Meter Dash 8th place (13.50) and 200 Meter Dash 6th place (28.67), Ashley Yoder 8th Place 800 Meter Run (2:31), Taylor Kennedy 6th Place 3200 Meter Run (13:23.98).

WLS will compete in the DIII Southwest Regional Meet at Troy Stadium with prelims on Wednesday and finals on Friday.

The West Liberty-Salem boys track team won the Division 3 District Meet hosted at Graham.

The Tigers are sending 15 total athletes to the Division 3 Regional Meet hosted at Troy Wednesday 5/24 and Friday 5/26.

  • 4x200m relay of Jack Bahan, Gabe McGill, Lincoln Henderson, Jackson Steider (1:34.97)
  • 4x100m relay of Dylan Glunt, Gabe McGill, Logan Phillips, Jack Bahan (45.04)
  • 4x400m relay of Logan Phillips, Micah Smith, Brevin Louden, Troy Bradley (3:35.70)
  • Mark Bair discus (137-3)—completed Tuesday

3rd Place

  • Craig Stanford Pole Vault (11-0)—completed Tuesday
  • 4×800 relay of Quentin Rudolph, Owen Harrison, Micah Smith, Asher Knox (8:25.60) —completed Tuesday

4th Place

  • Owen Harrison 3200m (10:05.42)
  • Jackson Steider Long Jump (18-8.75) —completed Tuesday

This is the first time in school history that the boys and girls won district titles in the same year.
